New Product: Lecat's Ventrilophone

If you are looking for a stethoscope with sounds for a standardized/simulated patient, here is a solution that is reliable and versatile, the Lecat's ventrilophone or ventriloscope.

The company recently added the Ventrilophone to their product line. The ventrilophone, which is hard wired, has the advantage of lower cost but with the same high quality audio (for heart, lung, and abdominal sounds and blood pressure) as the wireless Ventriloscope. Both products have a small, hand-held transmitter that can be placed out of site and controlled by a simulated/standardized patient or an instructor.

In addition to use for standardized/simulated patients, the products can be used for small group and auditorium teaching. For more information, view their website:

Faculty Development Toolkit of Simulation Resources at NLN SIRC

The National League for Nursing (NLN) recently published A Faculty Development Toolkit of Simulation Resources. This document is located on the NLN SIRC website at http://sirc.nln.org/pluginfile.php/18733/mod_page/content/29/Faculty%20DevelopToolkit%20Final%20February%202016.pdf

This is a valuable tool for developing simulation competence and expertise and contains numerous web links, information on articles, conferences, books or other publications and courses for learning simulation skills.

As a co-author of this document, I believe its strength is the way the resources are organized. There are nine content areas for varied aspects of the role of the simulation educator/team. Each one of these is then leveled from novice to expert using the Benner Novice to Expert framework.
There are many ways to use the resources and it is created to be beneficial for starting at one's current level of skills and abilities and building on that foundation.

Here are the nine areas
Technology, simulation scenario design, debriefing, teaching/learning strategies, curriculum integration, evaluation, realism/fidelity, standardized/simulated patients, and simulation management. Recognizing your team's strengths and needs in each of these areas is valuable for building up each team member and filling the overall gaps for your educator workforce.

It is a free PDF download, get it at the link above.
