I recently returned from the University of Pittsburgh’s ELITE training workshop on simulation for nurse educators. This 2 ½ day program was a great experience and one you may want to look into for advancing your own simulation knowledge and skill. The workshop addresses curriculum integration, advances in simulation research and education, and simulation skills for educators in curriculum development and implementation. The last day is very interactive. We wrote a scenario and ran it, practiced debriefing with feedback from expert debriefers, and viewed 3 other groups present their scenarios. It was a small group format and has inspired our own presentation of Simulation Play Day, a one-day event that we hope you will enjoy locally.
If you want to find more out about the ELITE events, visit http://www.nursing.pitt.edu/elite/.

We would like to keep the collaboration developing through more opportunities to meet and share. Save the date: June 1st, for a Simulation Play Day from 8 am to noon. Details will be announced on the BLOG.
Also this blog will become more widely accessible and open to viewing by anyone on the internet. Only known contacts may publish posts. Simulation Training Opportunities from WISER
I saw this post from Dr. Phrampus on the INACSL listserve and am sharing it if anyone is interested and has the ability to take advantage of this great opportunity:
WISER at the Univeristy of Pittsburgh in collaboration with the Gordon Center at the University of Miami have created a Healthacare Simulation Instructor Development Program that has been running over the last year. We are training our own intructors as well as making it available to others. In about two weeks, we will have the next one in Pittsburgh, one in Singapore in October and one in Miami in November. More information is available at http://www.wiser.pitt.edu/apps/courses/courseview.asp?course_id=6358 This type of course prepares folks to achieve competence at teaching and facilitating with simulation methods. Then we usually have specific instructor training for new insturctors on the course by course basis, to ensure they master the nuance of the specific program.
Best of luck in your effforts,
-Paul

Newly Published Simulation Articles

Here's some great simulation literature. 2 nursing journals have recently dedicated an entire issue to simulation in nursing education.
The Journal of Nursing Education dedicated their entire Nov 2008 edition to simulation. The first article is Creating a Nursing Simulation Laboratory: A Literature Review. I will be using this information and encourage those getting started to read this article to help you design your simulation lab - along with the rest of the journal of course.
The National League of Nursing also just published all simulation articles in their March/April 2009 journal Nursing Education Perspectives.
Enjoy!

Clinical Simulation link
I would like to share another site as a resource. www.nursingsimulation.org which is the home site of The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). The journal for this group is not indexed yet, so joining the group to get to the articles is what I did. There are some great articles!!
